Touring is a significant part of the music students’ education and TYSA students have had multiple opportunities to present their artform across the United States and Europe.
BOSTON, 2013
Select members of the Tacoma Youth Symphony and the Tacoma Young Artists Orchestra performed in the renowned Boston Symphony Hall in May 2013. This memorable experience was dedicated to the resiliency of the citizens of Boston following the Marathon Bombing.
A wonderful educational opportunity was provided through tours of historic monuments, parks and museums in Concord, Lexington, Salem and Boston proper. Friendships were cemented for life!
WASHINGTON DC, 2008
The Tacoma Youth Symphony Association performed in the National Festival of the States held in Washington D.C. in April 2008. Selected participants from the Tacoma Youth Symphony and Tacoma Young Artists Orchestra traveled to our nation’s Capital to perform in three concerts.
The students were treated to daily tours of monuments, museums and other tourist attractions including a tour of the Capitol arranged through our State Representatives.
Performing groups were selected on the basis of recommendation from state & national music educators, governors, senators, congressional representatives and/or by audition.
CARNEGIE HALL, 2005
The Tacoma Youth Symphony Association received and accepted an invitation to perform in the esteemed Carnegie Hall in New York City on May 29, 2005. This was certainly a great honor!
Selected members of the Tacoma Youth Symphony and Tacoma Young Artists Orchestra embarked on this once in a lifetime experience. Following NYC tours and exploring time, rehearsals and masterclasses with Juilliard teachers, these young musicians performed Copland’s Tender Land Suite and Stravinsky’s Firebird to a full house. They received an immediate standing ovation from the savvy New York audience as well as FOUR curtain calls.
