Prelude Strings
Prelude Strings (formerly known as the Tacoma Young Violin Program) is for young people (grades 2-5) who wish to explore violin, viola, cello, or bass for the first time! Students will learn entry-level string skills, note reading, rhythmic foundations, how to play together in a group, and have the opportunity to make new friends.
No prior musical experience is necessary to join!
Class Times
Weekly classes are held on Saturday mornings at Studio 1 in the Pantages Theater in downtown Tacoma from 10:45–11:45 AM. Classes begin in September 2024 and run through May 2025. Full class schedule will be sent to families after completing the registration form below and paying the class registration fee.
Class Location
Studio 1 is located at 915 Broadway in downtown Tacoma, between the Pantages Theater box office and Theater on the Square.
Class Materials
Students will need to rent or purchase their own instrument, and obtain an instrument-specific copy of Essential Elements Book 1 for Strings. Supplemental materials will be provided by TYSA if needed.
Showcase Performances
Prelude Strings students will present their hard work in two show-and-tell concerts in December and May. The final concert in May will be held in the historic Rialto Theater.
Registration and Tuition
Please submit your registration for Prelude Strings by September 3rd. When registering, please pay your $50 registration fee/deposit to secure your spot. Tuition is $112 per month September through April.
Once you have registered your child below, please send in the $50 registration fee through the “Make a Payment” page in order to reserve a spot for your young musician, and check your email (provided in your application) for further information.
