2023 Evergreen Music Festival

Festival Director: Dr. Paul-Elliott Cobbs

This incredible summer music camp experience is for students (ages 7-21) who play orchestral instruments and for choral students (grades 5-8) in collaboration with the Tacoma Youth Chorus. If you have at least one year of experience with your instrument, we welcome you to grow musically and cultivate new friendships, while thriving in a familial and supportive culture at EMF!

The Evergreen Music Festival offers a day camp for younger musicians and an overnight camp for older musicians. In order to secure your place, please submit an application and the non-refundable deposit as soon as possible. Deposits will be applied to tuition.

EMF Session 1

July 17 – July 21, 2023 • Pacific Lutheran University

Tuition for Session 1 is $395 (Early Bird rate if full application received before May 15, 2023) or $445 (regular rate), with a $100 non-refundable deposit. Full balance is due by July 15th.

EMF Session 2

July 30 – August 5, 2023 • Central Washington University

Tuition for Session 2 is $1,265 (Early Bird rate if full application received before May 15, 2023) or $1,365 (regular rate), with a $200 non-refundable deposit. Full balance is due by July 15th.

Session 1

July 17 – July 21, 2023 • Pacific Lutheran University

Younger musicians meet for daily classes and rehearsals. The program is designed for young string, woodwind, brass, and percussion players. String musicians entering grades 2-8 in the upcoming school year need to have a minimum of one (1) year of experience on their instruments. Woodwinds, brass, and percussion musicians entering grades 6-8 need to have a minimum of one (1) year of experience on their instruments. We are also proud to offer a choral option during Session I for voice students in grades 5-8 in collaboration with the Tacoma Youth Chorus!

Session 1 of EMF initiates, enhances, and furthers individuals’ technique and appreciation of orchestral music. Musical studies include music elements and history, technique-building exercises, section rehearsals, lecture/recital demonstrations, performance opportunities, and a concert.

Session 2

July 30 – August 5, 2023 • Central Washington University

Musicians entering grade 9 and above (through age 21) in the upcoming academic school year are invited to apply. Audition recordings may be required depending on the instrument. Audition materials will be provided upon receipt of your application.

This festival attracts the talented, motivated, and pre-professional young musician for a comprehensive program of summer music study and performance. Musical studies include chamber music, orchestra rehearsals, masterclasses, orchestral techniques, resident and visiting artists, section coaching, form analysis, music elements and history classes, daily concerts, and faculty and student recitals. Session 2 will be an overnight camp held at Central Washington University.
