Audition Requirements

A TYSA audition is not a competition—it’s a holistic process that helps our conductors place everyone in an orchestra that challenges AND nourishes them. When auditioning, you’ll audition by instrument, not for a specific ensemble.

All Students

Please prepare a solo of your choice (without accompaniment) that demonstrates technical proficiency, tone production, and musicianship; it is helpful to consult your music teacher when selecting your solo. You may be stopped before you complete your piece, since this is an audition and not a performance. A short excerpt from an orchestral score will be provided for sight-reading.

In the instance that you cannot make it on your assigned audition day, you will need to submit a private YouTube video in lieu of an in-person audition. Your video, required forms, and audition fee are due by August 1st.
